CMMI
Validation – A New Service:
|
|
|
|
|
CMMI is recognized across the industry as a framework for
software development and management processes and a model for process
improvement. Over recent years it has been adopted world wide and by large
numbers of very diverse software development organizations. Along with this recognition CMMI is also gaining an
unfortunate reputation for poor return on investment, compared with its
predecessors and contemporary approaches to software management. In part this
is due to the complexity and comprehensiveness of the model and the expense
of the assessment processes. Process improvement teams, whether internal to the
organization, or, especially if contracted in from elsewhere, inevitably
focus on the requirements of the CMMI model and the desire to achieve
recognized organizational maturity. It is this that is usually set as an
objective and used as an indicator of success. As a result real software
development performance and software and system quality tend to be
overlooked, either because their improvement is believed to be an intrinsic
part of the model and will inevitably improve (they won’t), or something to
be dealt with later when maturity is achieved (it rarely is). As a result process improvement work within the context of
CMMI frequently has little real value and can actually damage performance as model
conformance issues and SCAMPI planning and preparation dominate the SPI
agenda, stifle innovation and inhibit useful change. To counter this, to ensure CMMI delivers value to your organization, we are offering a new (and to our knowledge, unique) service. We will work with you to identify your software development requirements and software quality and service quality objectives, and ensure that your CMMI process improvements work to satisfy these needs and deliver these objectives, while your process improvement team focuses on CMMI model requirements and the achievement of maturity levels. Our experience shows that when improved performance is the
primary objective, or target, and CMMI is used as a framework to
deliver that improvement; when your software development operational model is
used together with the CMMI’s reference model, then the costs and timescales
for achieving CMMI compliance, the secondary objective, or indicator,
are reduced: an apparent paradox well understood by world class software
organizations. We are sufficiently confident of the value and robustness
of CMMI to deliver improved performance, and our ability to ensure that you
get CMMI to really work for you to offer our services on a no cure, no fee basis: If you do not get measurably improved
performance from CMMI, as measured by you, as a result of our validation
service there will be no cost to you. We have 20 years experience using CMMI,
CMM and its predecessors to improve software development performance, so
we’re sure we will be paid! Contact us now to
