SPI Products |
We use and develop specialised SPI methods and tools.
Designed for simplicity and wide applicability they include:
Assessment
CBA-IPI - The Software
Engineering Institute's Capability Maturity Model assessment method.
Business Driven Assessment -
Our own assessment method with a focus on business need.
Process Improvement Planning
DevPIP – A process improvement
planning method. It has been developed to bridge the gap between the assessment
and the implementation of process improvements.
Process Improvement Implementation
TCM – The Tactical Change Management
method. Many organisations can't wait for conventional improvement initiatives
to deliver benefits. With TCM an organisation can rapidly reap the benefits of
their improvement programmes.
Rapid Improvement Approach
PirL – For low cost rapid
improvements. This really is the quick way into process improvement. Designed
to be a low cost rapid return approach for those organisations that need to
quickly establish an improvement culture with limited resources.
Process Definition
ProcDef – Captures, defines and
documents existing and new working practices.
Our SPI Services include:
SPI Strategic Guidance: Many organisations are new to
Software Process Improvement (SPI) and need early guidance on establishing and
planning their SPI programme. This guidance must be appropriate to the specific
needs of the organisation, which will include due consideration of their market
sector, business drivers, resources, timescales, and budget. Frequently an
organisation does not want, or cannot afford to have a full-time dedicated SPI
resource but needs experience on hand, on an as needed basis. Our Strategic SPI
Guidance helps organisations establish an approach to SPI that is right for
them. It gives easy access to SPI knowledge and experience and allows that
organisation to bring that knowledge and experience in-house. A package of
support can be established which is right for the organisation, ranging from a
one of task to initiate the SPI programme; it could be ongoing support. With a
ready access to SPI knowledge and experience an organisation can establish its
SPI strategy more rapidly and begin to make progress that much earlier.
SPI Training: OSEL provides software process improvement (SPI) training to
many organisations with a focus on improving the business objectives. In each
course the Software Engineering Institute's Capability Maturity Model (CMM) is
described. We provide the following SPI training:
·
Three-day
Process Improvement Workshop: - An in-depth course with a detailed description of the CMM
and extensive exercises.
·
One-day
Process Improvement Workshop: - An intensive course aimed at raising process improvement
awareness throughout the whole organisation.
·
Two-hour
Management Seminar:
- An introduction to the concepts of process improvement for senior and middle
management.
Each of the training courses can be tailored to the needs of the particular organisation. Some larger clients use their own processes for the exercises and have chosen to "badge" the workshops as their own.
Managed Software Process Group: OSEL's managed SPG provides an
organisation with its process improvement steering group. The SPG provides the
focus and direction for SPI activities. The service provided by OSEL is aimed
at those organisations which want to establish their SPI programme with limited
resources or perhaps the organisation is new to process improvement and wants a
jump-start. Key elements of Managed SPG are:
·
Defined
Terms of Reference
·
Provision
of key members
·
Established
SPI direction
Tactical and strategic direction of the SPI programme is achieved by combining the managed SPG with PirL.
